Gorgeous 12 inch Steiff Teddy bear still retaining his blank button in ear. He is from the original family. I purchased the bear from the Grandson of the original owner. He was very kind to share a little information about his Grandmother. What we know is the bear’s owner was Mildred Shimp. She’s from New Jersey and received the bear when she was just a little girl. The bear has his blank button, so we know the bear dates between 1905 and 1906. The teddy was her childhood toy and Mildred’s Grandson Russell told me that he remembers seeing the bear in his Grandmother’s house his entire life, but she didn’t talk much about him, only he remembers he was not allowed to play with teddy, as Mildred called him. Because I like to keep the family names as part of the bear’s life, I always name the bear after the owner. I’ve named this bear Teddie Millie. I think Mildred would be happy to know that her bear is named after her.
