18 1/2" 1907 LAUGHING ROOSEVELT TEDDY BEAR. MADE BY COLUMBIA OF NEW YORK, NOVELTY BEAR WITH SPLIT WOODEN MOUTH AND TEETH. ORIGINALLY WHEN THE BEAR'S STOMACH WAS SQUEEZED HIS MOUTH WOULD OPEN SHOWING HIS TEETH. CONSTRUCTED IN THE FASHION OF A "STICK BEAR" HE IS DISK JOINTED AT HIS NECK, SHOULDERS AND HIPS. HE WEARS A TEDDY ROOSEVELT PIN ON A RIBBON AROUND HIS NECK. VERY RARE BEAR.
MECHANISM THAT OPENS HIS MOUTH NO LONGER WORKS, MOHAIR IS SPARSE AND HAS TURNED FROM GOLD TO ORANGE, HE HAS SEVERAL REPAIRS AROUND THE DISKS IN HIS ARMS, ALONG SEAMS AND TO HIS PAW PADS.
