SOLD (1960) Cheeky Pyjama case. Dot Bird
SOLD by Dot Bird
Here is a lovely 1960's Merrythought Cheeky bear pyjama case! These don't come up for sale very often, this one has been in my collection for over 10 years. I remember seeing one or two sell through Christies auction house a few years ago but I haven't seen any since then.
As you can see from the picture, this lovely old boy is sadly missing an ear! I never got time to replace his missing one and anyway, I rather like him as he is! He is now looking for his forever home, can someone overlook his partial deafness and enjoy him for how he is? Bless him, he says he can still hear very well due to the size of his remaining ear, which still has the
bell inside it!
He is made from lovely thick, long pile golden mohair, no moth damage or balding areas. He is stuffed with kapok, he has felt pads (a little worn but no holes), plastic eyes, velvet muzzle in great condition, and is 100% original. He is 26" tall and retains his regd design label on right foot. The metal zip works well at the back, the pink quilted pocket for p.j.'s is in great condition. All his joints work well. I have had a rolled up towel inside the pocket to help him to sit up, but of course you can put whatever you like in it! His head is a little floppy but that gives him character!
He has his photograph on page 53 in Kathy Martin's lovely book - 'Teddy Bears, a collectible history of the teddy bear', of which he is very proud.
